Service Description
🍏 MacBook Service & Maintenance Checklist 1. Initial Check Inspect chassis for dents, loose hinges, swollen battery. Check display for dead pixels, discoloration, or stage light effect. Test ports (USB-C, Thunderbolt, headphone jack). Verify keyboard (sticky keys are common in butterfly models). Boot into macOS and note startup time, errors, or fan noise. 2. Cleaning & Cooling External cleaning with microfiber & isopropyl alcohol (screen, keyboard, trackpad). Check vents (if Intel model, clean fans/vents using compressed air carefully). For older Intel MacBooks → reapply thermal paste if overheating. Note: M1/M2/M3 models have no fans in some cases (MacBook Air), so focus on keeping vents/dust-free. 3. Battery & Power Run System Information → Power → Battery Health check (cycle count, condition). Look for swelling or warping. Test MagSafe/USB-C charger voltage and cable condition. Verify sleep/wake functionality. 4. macOS Software Maintenance Update macOS to the latest supported version. Update Safari, iCloud, and system security patches. Use Disk Utility → First Aid to repair disk permissions/errors. Manage startup/login items (System Settings → Users & Groups → Login Items). Clear caches and temporary files. Run Apple Diagnostics (hold D on startup). 5. Hardware Diagnostics Run Apple Diagnostics (Intel: hold D, Apple Silicon: hold Power until Options → Diagnostics). Test WiFi, Bluetooth, Touch ID/Face ID, webcam, mic, and speakers. Check keyboard backlight & trackpad force click. Run external display test (Thunderbolt/HDMI output). 6. Security & Optimization Verify FileVault encryption is enabled. Ensure Time Machine backups are configured. Reset SMC/NVRAM (Intel models only). Remove unnecessary background apps and login items. 7. Optional Upgrades/Service For older models: Replace battery if below 70% health. Upgrade SSD/RAM (only on pre-2015 or select MacBook Pro models). For Apple Silicon: Run full firmware & macOS update (cannot upgrade RAM/SSD). 8. Final Testing Stress test CPU/GPU temps (Intel models). Verify performance in Safari, Office, or creative apps. Confirm all updates installed and system runs smoothly. Provide customer with a health report.
